Gospel MT 9:27-31

As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out,
“Son of David, have pity on us!”
When he entered the house,
the blind men approached him and Jesus said to them,
“Do you believe that I can do this?”
“Yes, Lord,” they said to him.
Then he touched their eyes and said,
“Let it be done for you according to your faith.”
And their eyes were opened.
Jesus warned them sternly,
“See that no one knows about this.”
But they went out and spread word of him through all that land.

Reflection:

The two blind men approached Jesus saying, “Son of David, have pity on us.”
Jesus asked the blind men only one question:
“Do you believe that I can do this?”
They answered, “Yes, Lord.”
Like the two men who approached Jesus in today’s Gospel, I too can be blind to my own selfish and self-centered behavior.
Sometimes, by choice, I turn a “blind eye” to those things about myself that
I don’t want to “see”.
But, eventually, the beautiful God given gift of my conscience brings me to the point where, like the blind men, I too cry out, “Lord, have pity on me.”
Can Jesus give me sight to see myself as I am?
Do I believe that He “can do this?”
“Yes, Lord,” I say to Him.
