Gospel LK 5:12-16

It happened that there was a man full of leprosy in one of the towns where Jesus was;
and when he saw Jesus,
he fell prostrate, pleaded with him, and said,
“Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.”
Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said,
“I do will it. Be made clean.”
And the leprosy left him immediately.
Then he ordered him not to tell anyone, but
“Go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing
what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.”
The report about him spread all the more,
and great crowds assembled to listen to him
and to be cured of their ailments,
but he would withdraw to deserted places to pray.Reflection:
Responding to the leper’s hope to be cured, Jesus stretched out his hand and healed him. Then he ordered the man not to tell anyone.
However, human nature being what it is, news spread of the leper being cured and others flocked to Jesus with their troubles.
It is the same today. Daring to hope, a woman calls and receives a bed for her child, along with a crucifix and the message, “This is the man who sent you the bed.”
Like a pebble in a pond, word of the Savior who gave his life to save sinners, ripples outward. Soon another woman calls, seeking help from the man who rose from the cross.
Years pass, and as it happened with the loaves and fish, the person who was first helped by Jesus is multiplied by thousands.
Today, we carry furniture and food, yet it is the Hope of Christ we deliver.
