As a 'ministry of education,' My Brother's Keeper hosts two immersion retreats at our facility each year.
The first is Urban Plunge, a 3½ day service retreat offered each January in partnership with the University of Notre Dame, Stonehill College and Providence College.
Along with our staff, 12-14 students sleep overnight at My Brother's Keeper, celebrate daily Mass, deliver furniture and food, volunteer at local homeless shelters and soup kitchens, listen to guest speakers, and reflect each evening on their service.
Some feedback from our students… "I am in awe. My Brother's Keeper is so much more than I could have imagined"… "It exceeded all my expectations"… "The experience was transformative"… "You prompted so many new thoughts and ideas regarding poverty, service, and faith"… "Your philosophy of service will improve the way I interact with God and others"… "I'll never forget Urban Plunge."
Using the same retreat format, My Brother's Keeper hosted the inaugural Deacon Plunge in May 2010. In partnership with the Archdiocese of Boston, My Brother's Keeper hosted 12 men training to be deacons through the Archdiocese's Diaconate Formation Program.
Deacon Dan Burns, head of Diaconate Formation, sent the following thank you after the retreat: "To the staff of My Brother's Keeper— My heartfelt thanks to you all for your kindness, generosity, and grace-filled hospitality. The weekend was a true gift to the Diaconate Program as we put into practice our call to be the Servant-Christ to our brothers and sisters, a call you live out each day. May Christ continue to bless you abundantly and all those you serve."
